EVE Rambles, this other thing
Things have been pretty quiet in EVE since my slimy-pod fitted inside a newly-minted Dominix. (paid 55 million ISK for it) It’s baffling really, you would think, hey this new battleship here is pretty sweet, it holds a fuck ton of drones, it’s going to whoop up on some angel ass. Have you ever asked the random girl of your dreams for hot sex only to be turned down? That’s what it felt like. After taking the Domi to those same belts I quickly learned I killed rats faster in my Myrmidon.
No fucking shit, Matt Krones you are a jack ass. You also need to train your drones skill to do more damage, IE: Kill fast, Kill hard. Dominix doesn’t equal insta-bank just because it’s a shiny new battleship that happens to have a bigger capacitor and holds more baggage space for your drones. Oh yea, be sure to train up your capacitor skills because your new boat is a slow piece of shit space duck that is bound to get blown to smithereens.
I worked my ass off like Captain Space Jew deep in some random angel belt in 0 sec to get to this point. Talk about a joy-kill, I’m still cleaning the sand in my man wallet. To-be-honest, investing all that time salvaging wrecks to get a Myrmidon was dumb, only to lose that Myrmidon to the first belt I warp into over being a complete idiot, to only go back to work on the farm again. After salvaging enough wrecks to supply the Flea Market in Jita for a year, I earned my ratting stripes and profited about 5 million ISK every hour in said Myrmidon, and I’m barely making that much in my Dominix
Much faster than what I could do in Empire, but doing the same fucking orbit vampire my drones eat you for lunch wasn’t as thrilling as even the combat in EverQuest. After you do it for a few weeks and accumulated a whopping 120 million ISK you are ready to go insane and stab someone in the face with your toe nails. So yea, ratting in a Myrmidon netted me more ISK than my Dominix, not very enthused to rat in my new Dominix after investing a lot of time to even slip inside it. It’s the skills man, I need more skills.
Yea, there’s this other thing main reason why my EVE time has lapsed was on the technical side. ATI, I’m sorry, baby, you give me to much drama, I don’t like drama. You had to go. I replaced it with a NVIDIA 7900GT, not the 8800GT that I want so bad that it makes my knees weak, and I’d kill a small panda for only to make a zombie panda in return that I would train to eat dog brains. But the 7900GT will definitely get me by for now, and jumping from an X850XT to a 7900GT is like walking on the moon and the ATI is like walking in your driveway and noticing these pixels really suck and everything is brown and you are playing Vanguard, only it’s real-life and you begin to feel like McQuaid and run to the next generation Christian religion that says their Religion is better than the other guys. Oh yea, the card was only 80 bucks. Thank you anandtech for sale/trade forums.
So yea, Not much EVE time these past few weeks and I don’t really mind because like I said, I’m still learning my learning skills, my character is slow to learn, he is a half-wit because I am a half-wit. I need special skills school or something. Although, I got greedy and I’m training Heavy Drones during the EVE Trinity deployment that is about end, or has already, I haven’t checked. What can I say? I’m one bad mother fucker who lives dangerously.
The ATI card, I want to burn it. The evil fucking card that decides it doesn’t like me anymore. It went down like this: I’m ratting angels in true sec, my client freezes. You know this isn’t good, I start crying, panic sets in as those Malakims aren’t very forgiving. I cry more. We do it all over again in an hour because it’s so much fun. It’s like being the ugly fat kid in junior high again, except this time, I’m even more fat and I get kicked in the balls twice as much. I can’t breathe because my balls hurt so bad, at the same time all I can think about is pizza, topped with ice cream and some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Everything should be good now, anyway, I hope it is. The truth is I just got the shiny new graphics card yesterday, I haven’t been able to really break-it-in, but I think at this point anything is better than the X850XT, except for another ATI card. The real bad news is, well, the golden-boy who is truly gifted at playing MMOs, and the one we all love to hate, yea, yea, you know the guy, we all know one. Mr. look at me piloting a Raven, to super cov-ops spy, to fucking pubbies up on the front-lines in about a month has stopped playing EVE. Stopped. just. like that. Oh Noez! What will I do if I can’t ride the coat-tails to the top?
This royally sucks, rly. I won’t give up EVE, but the game definitely isn’t as appealing when you had someone giving you a front-lines report on what was going on with the war between the big-guns, and could answer just about any question about the game. Why did my butt-buddy quit? Well, the gameplay in EVE sucks, that’s why, and well as much as there are some things I love about EVE, it’s far from being this ball of tasty fun we sometimes make it out to be.
My top two EVE gripes: POS warfare is fucking dull. Ratting (straight up ISK grind) is so mind-numbing it was invented to explode the brains from any non Icelanders as new unprecedented level of boredom is reached. When it comes to ratting the only buttons you are going to mash during actual combat is a salvager and tractor beams. Based on your DPS output and ship build, you already know the outcome of the fight and all you do is flip the switches to get the fight going, that’s it. It gets so dull I actually AFK, get on my hands and knees and pray for some hostiles to give me a reason to warp to the nearest station to dock out for a few hours.
The really bad news is said friend has me 80% convinced to start playing WoW again. Fuck, WHY am I tempted to go down that road again? I have so many great games to play; including some non-MMOG games that I’m dying to finish, (I’m looking at you Orange Box) and I’m thinking about playing WoW for the umpteenth time again because I’m a fucking moron. And those WoW leveling changes I blasted earlier are looking pretty damn good right now. Flame or Save me. Either or, I think I need some cowbell. I could always play both WoW and EVE at the same time… Anyone try it?

Why not give Vanguard a try?
Are you playing VG?
You need an EVE-break buddy. Be at ease, go play WoW for a while, then come back to EVE and embrace the game!
That or, give yourself new goals and try to reach them! Change career, go and explore eve, trade, mine, gatecamp, anything to change your routine and spice it up again.
Have fun!
Technically I’ve had an EVE break for the last few weeks. ) What I really need to do is work on a feature for Massively that showcases the new ships, but this is proving to be difficult since I’m still a pubbie.
If you had just sold the timecard in the first place you would have skipped the obviously boring ISK grind. Discovered that money/a big ship isn’t good enough, you need more skills, always more skills. Learned that after the money grind, the rest of the mechanics are boring too. You end up spending 3 months worth of subscription money to learn the game isn’t that exciting in just one month, so you can move on to something that actually will be fun…after the grind is over. What that game is I’m not sure. Maybe give the Pirates of the Burning Sea open beta a try.
Are you playing PotBS? I’ve tried it briefly, I didn’t like the controls.
I’m thinkin about it. When it came out a few of us from PKer.org started on the FFA PvP server. One dudes still playing and trying to get others to return. I could probably get you a buddy key to try it for a week or something.
I’ll probably give it another chance, but it wont be until early next year. Are you going to play in the PotBS beta?
I’ve got it installed, I just can’t really get into it. Probably because it’s beta and that means pretty laggy, I crash in the middle of fights too often, and I think I might just suck at the game. I’m installing and resubbing my VG account today though.
I’ve been playing PotBS for a very short while. There are lots of places to read about the game play, and economy, written by people who write, so I won’t do that here. I do like the game, and I like the way the economy works. I really like age of sail games, and this captures the need for tactics/skill over progression level well enough.
Long term prospects I can’t attest to though. I haven’t really been in the PvP part. That’s the endgame (not that you can’t participate whenever), so how you feel about that is key.
