Couple who killed their own daughter, “Baby Grace,” first met through WoW
Riley Ann Sawyers was only 2 years old. Her short life ended at the hands of her own mother and step father when they brutally tortured and killed her. Kimberly Dawn Trenor, 19, the girl’s mother moved cross country to Spring, Texas earlier in June to be with Royce Clyde Zeigler, 24. The two originally met two years ago through World of Warcraft.
Riley was killed in late July and suffered three fractures to the skull but no official cause of death has been determined yet. A statement given by Trenor confesses to the chilling murder detailing how Riley was killed and later dumped in the Galveston Bay. Zeigler attempted suicide last week and wrote a note saying, “My wife is innocent of the sins that I committed,” according to the court documents.
Various news reports claim Kimberly had left Riley’s father, Robert Sawyers of Mentor, Ohio on March 31st after an embittered relationship lead to Kimberly filing domestic abuse charge which went unproved and was later reduced to disorderly contact. Trenor had left Ohio not telling anyone where she went and it wasn’t until she applied for a Texas license the Sawyers learned from Trenor’s whereabouts. In July, Trenor told relatives that Riley had been taken away by a social service worker from Ohio over sexual abuse allegations and had forged documents from the Ohio Department of Children’s Services on Zegler’s request after the murder.
Robert Sawyers and his mother had been trying to gain custody of Riley and attempted to contact the police for help but since Kimberly had sole custody nothing was done. Robert Sawyers has already remarried and has a 3 month old son. Rumors are also circulating that Kimberly Dawn Trenor is pregnant with Zeigler’s child, but I can’t find an official confirm on this aside form various forum trolls.
Oh, and they played WoW. This all could’ve been avoided if Kimberly had given custody to the grandparents? Seriously, wtf? Many types of people from all walks of life play MMOGs, this is no different than anyone who worships Jesus and turns out to be a serial killer or appears to be an upstanding member of their community. Ignorant jackals will be quick to point out the couple played World of Warcraft at one time and how World of Warcraft breeds killers because you kill virtual monsters in the game all day or something.
The fact of the matter is that both Trenor and Zeigler may have not continued to play WoW, but remained in contact, and in the grand scheme of things a person is responsible for their own actions — not the Matrix. In respect to Rilely and to show you are a responsible parent that actively plays MMOGs, I suggest taking a few nights when you normally play and spending that time with your kids instead.

Of course this has nothing to do with WoW, but how many fucking stupid crazy people are there who will say it does just to try and tarnish the name? Didn’t Jack Thompson or some other asshat say WoW had weapons that are similar to weapons used in modern times? They’re stupid and they have an agenda and that agenda is also stupid. The fact of the matter is, people have mental problems that can allow them to murder their own child. WoW has 8 gazillion subscribers. How many people who have killed someone have also played a game of tennis or swam in a pool? Does that mean that tennis players and swimmers are murderers? Of course not.
Moral of the story: people are stupid and crazy.
It drives me nuts when media, parents, or authorities looking for someone to blame are quick to bring up a video game. Sooo… if someone who plays golf kills someone, does it mean golf makes people violent? If someone who spends a lot of time with their church, as you say, kills someone, does it mean spending time at church indicates social problems?
Of course not, yet that’s the assumption if the culprit is a video game.
Sigh…
