EVE Online actually really really works on Macs - hot diggity dog! -

Hotdog as in I’m entuiastic to see my Mac brothers and sisters gain entrance into another MMOG, especially since most of my friends seem to tote around Macbooks en masse. SO yea, it’s about fucking time the Mac and Linux clients were released, hell they were announced 8 months ago or longer. The following shot of EVE Online running on my bro’s Macbook is crappy. I can barely support my alcohol consumption — take pity on me for not owning the latest DSLR evil image capturing device. Hell, I think I could’ve taken a better quality shot with a damn Polaroid.

See that, oooooooooohhh-ahhhhhhhhhh, EVE on the Macbook. Sure, there’s Bootcamp, Parallels, and Crossover. It’s not like you can’t play any PC games on the Mac with one of those dealios, unlike back in the glory days when Macs were stuck with Virtual PC, but this makes things so much easier. If you want to nuke that Windows partition this little client can come in real handy to make that fantasy come true. And it’s not just about the Mac, Linux is getting some love too. I tested out the game last night on a 2.4 Ghz Macbook Pro, 2 GHz ram, ATI x1600 video card, I think OS 10.4.9, and EVE ran flawlessly averaging 45 frame per second.

I read one report that the game wouldn’t run very well under Leopard. I’m hoping it’s a fluke because every Mac user will probably end up upgrading to Leopard because it’s the first OS X update in a long time that isn’t complete ass. Anyway, you can download the Mac client now and it will compatible with the main play server, Tranquility, when Revelation 2.3 launches on November the 6th. You can check out the full deets here.

Some EVE Online in-game pictures running on a Macbook - nothing exciting about the shots, but eh, what the hell.
