I, Massively
I’m guilty, I went corporate. I’m writing for this new rag called Massively, it’s a blog run by the WIN network, the blog conglomerate that erected gems like WoW Insider and Joystiq. If you like the WoW Insider bunch, most of them will be penning for Massively, and a few other familiar names like Zonk have joined the fold. I’m a hack compared to the lot of them — no idea on how I beat the slush pile, sheer dumb-luck! I hope you enjoy the Match Ads, find a soul-mate that likes to play MMOGs, thank me later. While you’re there, check out some of the words and prepare to have your mind blown away, then put it back together and have it blown away again. Whoa. Easy there, after the first 2 blown minds it becomes harder to reassemble.
More importantly, new big-blog means new big-prizes. For the next two weeks, Massively is giving away some sick prizes, like omg free phat lewtz. I know what most of the prizes are already and I’m jealous I can’t enter. Speaking of entering, it’s easy, none of this draw us a MMOG Picasso crap; write me the best lore-play on why gnomes blow chunks and why elves are the superior race in any MMOG crap. These contests are lazy-man, ez-mode friendly. All you do is post in the comments to enter the prize extravaganza. WoW players might find it difficult to enter even with ez-mode on but I’m keeping the faith they will pull through. Hoho, I jest, surely I jest.
Free loot:
Tabula Rasa Give-away. Every hour on the hour until it’s all gone.
15 EQ2: Rise of Kunark beta keys
EQ1 is still around, 10 beta keys
Lots more coming, so keep checking back everyday if you are interested in the new contests. No, I don’t get a free copy of Tabula Rasa. *sniffs* or are they doing me a favor? haha,
If you are a MMOG blogger and you consistently write great content, you will get link-love sooner or later. A lot of the writers on Massively track MMOG blogs, and frankly, lots of bloggers crank out quality content that deserves to be read by a larger audience. I really hope Massively can grow traffic for the smaller MMOG blogs out there. I know the effort a lot of you put in, it’s a labor of love, but it is also nice to be rewarded with some comments and some hits other than from immediate family. Hi mom! I already have a lot of blogs in my readers, but if you like to drop your mmog blog in the comments for me to keep tabs on, please do.
If you are a reader and you like to read your news with a little slant, you will like Massively. If you don’t like reading about certain MMOGS and don’t feel like scouring through a bunch of posts to get to the juicy stuff, you can always subscribe to certain categories via rss — it’s the future man. Get on Google Reader, and start adding some feeds.
Examples:
http://www.massively.com/category/lord-of-the-rings-online/rss.xml
http://www.massively.com/category/everquest-ii/rss.xml
http://www.massively.com/category/warhammer-online/rss.xml
You can see all the categories on the right column off the main page, all you have to do is add the rss.xml to the url feed when adding it. This is mandatory if you want to help filter out the content, and it’s probably a good idea if you only play a few MMOGS. Massively is well massive, with so many MMOGS being discussed it may become a chore keeping up with the content you really want to read.
It isn’t always about the news. Let’s face it, sometimes news blows, it’s not entertaining unless nudity is involved, and for those that hate reading news we got you covered. Once we are up and running you will see a lot of great features on various MMOGs, similar to what is already done on WoW Insider. I actually like writing slanted news blurbs, I always felt that it was pointless here, because it was impossible to keep up and other sites already did a good job doing it, but there really isn’t a great site covering MMOG news with some slant mixed in with some other great content. And I don’t think there are any networks that really share the love with the smaller MMOG blogs, until now.
Plaguelands will live on. I may not update everyday, (like I updated everyday before — laughs) But I like to sling some curses every now and again, and I can’t do that on Massively without having to wash my mouth out with some soap. If you really want to find my posts, you can do so here. A lot of it is older news as we were working on building up the archives.

Matt proved to be exceptionally susceptible to our new coal-fired, mind-control apparatus. Now he will work our evil will^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H write all sorts of good stuff!
Wow, nice snag man. Grats! Been reading it every day since Tobold pointed it out. Keep up the good work.
Thanks bro, I look forward to sending some link-love your way.
If you are interested in writing for the site, I can let you know when they start taking apps again.
Grats, man! *scurries off to go look*

*shakes fist at Krones*
I blame you for introducing me to another time-sink I cannot afford. DAMN YOU!
*stalks away muttering to self*
*comforts and tosses you and the hubby some gummy zombie bear candies*
You don’t have to read Massively. I know you won’t read it because you feel like you have too, but I’m just saying in case you feel a little guilty if you don’t. Truth is, I can’t even read everything on the site but I try. I appreciate that you even take the time to post comments on my personal blog, and that actually means a lot more to me than having a friend reading Massively! I need to make up for it by giving you some comment flurries. If you are interested in writing for Massively send me an e-mail at krones@plaguelands.com for further information regarding the pay scale, etc. It’s peanuts, but peanuts are still peanuts and tasty peanuts at that. I can’t promise anything though!
Thank you, I’m flattered, but as tempting as it is I must decline. I used to freelance for the tabletop RPG industry until I finally realized that deadline stress wasn’t worth it. Now I try to stick to enterprises that don’t have hard deadlines. Like the whole thing with designing our own T-shirts. No one to tell me that I have to have five designs done by Friday, you know? Which somehow makes it much easier to do them.
I think this might have something to do with this massive pig-headed streak in me, whereby I suddenly don’t want to do something if someone tries to tell me I have to. I never claimed to make sense.
I just noticed Massively the other day. My first impression was that it’s a little overwhelming. I’ve already got some other news-tracker sites bookmarked (VirginWorlds, N4G, MMOWTF, MMPOW), but I really felt like I was digging at yours. That’s probably both good and bad… takes more time to weed through, but I’ll find more obscure blogs. Anyway, I added Massively to my daily reading.
And yes, all that reading means I’m chained to my computer for hours at a time. I’d get so much more gaming done if I stopped blogging, lol.
HALLOWER! It’s great to hear from you, I miss those old days where we would post like crazy maniacs on the VG forums — you outclassed my post count by far. ) Yea, I know the feeling on the feeds. I check up on all those feeds. I have over 100 feeds just about MMOGs probably more — it’s ridiculous. I’m living in my feed more than I’m writing, and that’s kinda sad….
I do have a few qualms about the site. I think the format should be different. There is talk of a customized feeds to include all the content except for Second Life and one that excludes WoW as well. You can sub by category, and since you already sub to virgin worlds, etc. You may only want to sub to the MMOG cats you are interested in. You can also subscribe by author or feature. There’s been some great features already, I mean, it’s pretty much all stuff we talked about before in the past but from a different perspective. I hope we can take it a step further and maybe separate each MMOG into their own sub domains. I don’t think that would happen but it would be best imo, and I’m crossing my fingers.
