Hulk Smash Crush Titan

The Titan is an uber massive ship in Eve, symbolic it represents power and dominance since they aren’t easy to come by. You won’t find anyone piloting them, most are either officers or leaders from the most powerful corps in Eve. Losing one is akin to well, I wouldn’t know, but I know I would shrivel up and cry a lot and after the funeral I would force my corp to finance another - because a corp wants to keep daddy happy. For your enemies, there is probably no greater morale boost destroying a Titan other than actually taking an enemy’s territory off the face of space.

What makes the Titan a Titan is an ability or a weapon, called doomsday that will destroy many ships at once (from what I’m told it’s like a crazy area effect spell), it can build jump bridges (I guess these are space highways that make travel a hell of a lot more convenient and safer), all around it’s bad ass. Although, some Eve pundits believe The Titan is not very good on the assault front and better left to building bridges and looking cool in cloaked in deep safe-guarded space. I’m no Titan expert, so, if I’m wrong, feel free to correct me in the comments.

The requirements to fly and fit it with advanced gizmos, takes more than days, even several months, more than likely it will take longer than a year and the dedication from many! Researching further, with the handy Evemon, one of the best mods from any game ever, I need 287 days of skill training to actually pilot one, that doesn’t include all the skill training I would need to deck it out with all the crazy space lasers and doodads. It would also set me back 50 billion isk; considering a game time card (approx value worth 15 greenbacks) trades for an average 180 million isk, 50 billion isn’t easy for one person to come by. I know I’ll never fly one, unless someone leaves theirs unattended since you can’t dock such a monstrosity in a station and players can steal ships, it’s possible to steal one! So, in a few years time there will be enough Titans floating in space, one will be idling by Renyn, ripe for the taking. Uh-huh…

Whenever a Titan is destroyed in Eve, it has a significant impact on the meta-game, lots of shit-talking, celebrating, rubbing e-dung in faces and forum war cleansing. (even in game there can be a drastic change resulting from a titan loss - politics) Last Friday was a significant day in Eve’s never-ending player war. It really is never-ending, there is no peace, because it’s a game and carebear peace is boring. Mercenary Coalition, an uber corp in Eve, one of Band of Brother’s pets - they claim mercenaries, lost their Titan to The Red Alliance, who also happen to have their own Titan. You can check out the owners space manual map clicking here, look southwest you will see a big chunk of blue and turquoise and the Red Alliance on the opposite side.

How Mercenary Coalition lost their Titan is really fantastically sad, because there was some carelessness by the pilot. With the larger ships in Eve, pilots must be cautious as to where they log out and make the necessary preparations since it’s impossible to randomly log out and expect it to be safe when logging back in. It went down like this:

Earlier the supposed safe spot was found by AAA coverts, (enemies) and the titan pilot logged back in cloaked later and didn’t go anywhere else immediately. AAA dictors (another ship) jumped in at once, decloaked and bubbled The Titan, and the rest is history.

This Titan belonged to the leader of Mercenary Coalition, who set the doomsday device went off but it only took out a small number of ships. No MC allies or reinforcements showed up to help defend - with a ship worth this much, you better be damn well I’m logging on with my allies knowing and nearby for support. This Titan only flew for a little more than 30 days, the shortest lived Titan yet. Here is a video .rar file of the Titan kill, (right click – save as). Watching Eve combat is somewhat boring, so you really have to be into Eve to appreciate it, otherwise check out this screen cap from some of the action if your interest is piqued in the slightest.

Congrats to The Red Alliance and AAA.
