Eve is what you make it
So my buddy who is on his fourth week (no prior Eve experience) has already seen every ship in Eve, joined one of the most powerful alliances, not only knows not only a shit load more about Eve than I do, but is already piloting a battleship without having to trade any gtc cards for isk and very little twinking by his comrades. This morning he was giving me the lowdown on the player-run territories when he interrupted my umpteenth question:
i need to log in we have a titan tackled.
10 minutes pass.
oh shit we might get him.
1 hour later…
Titan got away… But they lost a lot of capital ships.
Not the most riveting dialogue considering he was busy pew pew and ignoring anything I said, but here’s a shot from what went down earlier today. The titan is the big looking penis thing. Yea, I just did.
It amazes me that a new Eve player can be on the front lines of a major war in less than a month. As for myself, I’m still camped in some candy ass station in Renyn with my thumb up my ass having a hard time with some stupid level 1 mission. As the wise words my friend speaks, I suck at mmos. His early successes stem from his ambition and dedication. I don’t know of any other mmog where you can go from being a complete newb to participating in the end game in less than a month without any power leveling or major twinking or without sacrificing your first born and warping time so you can invest godly amounts of time.

Wow! Very cool screen shot!
I was wondering about the getting skills trained to fly a battleship in under a month, but doing some calculations, it seems that about 10 days would do it for the ship with a few more days to be able to equip it in a basic fashion. The ISK to buy the ship (and some of the skills) would be the only restriction, but if you are in a good corp that isn’t a big hurdle.
Of course I’m still sitting in high security space a year after starting and have just begun losing cruisers to level II missions, having graduated from losing frigates in level I missions finally. At least I seem to have figured out how to make money from mining so I can pay for all those cruisers.
But EVE does reward those willing to put in the effort.
Wow, just wow. I’m an idiot. I didn’t remember wrecks the first time I played, so I just assumed that they were floating carcasses that eventually disappeared after some time, oh yea, and there was no way they contained any loot. I really didn’t bother to check, because I am that lazy and assumed a cargo container would magically appear, and like in the old days I would approach this container and pillage my space trinkets, but not wrecks, these were vile tainted shells that were nothing more than twisted metal gravestones that couldn’t even be sold for scrap. After 20 or so kills I commented in chat that the drop rates were ass, I quickly learned not to be a lazy bastard unless you enjoy being the laughing stock in Eve. I’m going to go sit in the corner and cry for a few more days.
It looks like you mined 100 million pretty quick? How long did it take? Only 20 or so more days until you can fly the Hulk, don’t know much about mining ships, but that’s a lot of time for one ship, so I’m guessing their beefy.
Not only is that morning time great for playing Eve, before work, but so is blogging!
That screenshot captures the essence of excitement in EVE. I mean staring at that screenshot for a couple hours is about as fun as it gets.
It could be worse, like EverQuest II, which ranks in my book as my all time worst combat system in any mmog I played. Eve should be the worst, but since it is different and mainly at range, well, it’s different and there is some depth there between damage types.
Actually, that’s not fair. EQ2 and Lotro come pretty close, I would say EQ2 is slightly better than Lotros. I think EQ2 makes me angry because the potential for something better is there. With Lotro I just want to die inside. EQ was revolutionary for its time!
Stories like this make me feel bad at games.
Don’t worry, between me and The Ancient Gaming Noob, we will make you feel like a grokked gaming god in a matter of a few posts.
I read your last post! Damn bloggers.
Indeed, one of the possible sub-titles I considered for TAGN was, “Making you look better in comparison!” Or was that the fashion blog I was considering? Same idea all around.
I like the idea of eve, but i just don’t seem to have the time to get much farther than the low level stuff
Too much Legends of Norrath and not enough Evemon skill planning. Eve has a ccg! Have you tried it?
[...] reference to the phallic shape of the Amarr Titan. There is a good shot of its shape linked to this post. The Amarr Titan is actually called an Avatar, a name that would certainly fit if it showed up in [...]
