Vanguard’s End of Beta Events
One day remains to use the “your opinion is moot because the game is in beta” as a tactic when engaging in parley about the state of Vanguard. I guess there will always be, Vanguard hasn’t been in development very long! Actually it has, but still how about them events.
With the end of beta upon us we would like to thank everyone for their participation! It has been a long journey, but one very well traveled. We offer this fun filled day of events and tokens of our appreciation to celebrate Vanguard and the future that lies before it. The event starts this evening 1/22/07 After the patch and goes until the end of beta on 1/23/07 at 11:59PM PST
Thank you everyone Vanguard would not be the same without you! We look forward to spending many years with you and sharing many more events like this. Enjoy yourselves, this is your party!
Below is a list of events that are happening around the world
Elrar Da Big – To celebrate Vanguard’s community Elrar Da Big will be popping up all over Telon to share great trinkets and items. These items all have unique effects and are dedicated to the fansites of the Affiliate Fansite Program.
Bumper Boats! - The seas and rivers of Telon will soon fill with thousands of tiny and large vessels alike! The Crimson Fellowship will be ferrying players through the scenic waterways on giant galleons as players explore them in their personal schooners!
Tele-Tag - Ahgram has been transformed into a war zone as players fight to find the griffon vendor. Players will be able to get Tele-Taggers at the entrance to the city, throwing these at another player will cause them to be teleported back outside of the walls!
Update: I logged on and met a flying wyvern attacking the entrance to Hathor Zhi, word spread other points were also under attack and no one was organizing a tactical defense and the graveyards were piling up. I couldn’t inflict any damage since I was low level, I did feed the wyvern some experience; three deaths worth. I figured if I should die repeatedly, it should be up in the air. I spent two hours trying to get a griffon in Ahgram, that doesn’t include the hour it took me to walk there after numerous corpse runs along the way. (Thanks to Raydrix for putting up with the deaths and no pictures because the world doesn’t look so great on the highest performance setting.)
I kept getting ported back outside the city thanks to griefer-tag. Yea, a two hour ping-pong match amongst one hundred participants is a bit much, but flying on a griffon is one of the more enjoyable things about Vanguard and wasn’t a common occurence in the beta. Gebron, a lead programmer experiencing some lunacy from a lack of sleep, was kind enough to put up another griffon vendor in Lomshir - I headed there and once I arrived so many players were flying around on griffons I ended up crashing three times. By the time I was flying around only 30 minutes remained before pulling the plug, I soon crashed again (at least I was up in the air this time!) and as a result called it a night. I didn’t see any parting words or gems from Brad or any lead developers on the beta one server, which is what I was looking forward to the most.
Overall, I didn’t find the end of beta events very enjoyable compared to past Armageddons; however, I know plenty others did at my expense. ![]()

Krones,
Good to hear your opinions of Vanguard. I know a few friends that are looking forward to the game. I just haven’t decided what I am going to do when it is released. My brain is telling me that I should wait a few months after release to let them work out all the kinks. As one friend put it “People are tired of EQ2 because they have seen and done everything there. They are looking for a new grind.”
What? Is grinding fun? I am all for the feeling of accomplishment, but spending weeks to get that one level is insane. That’s just me.
Here are a few questions I have for you about Vanguard:
1) Is it purely a PVE game or do they have PVP as well?
2) Everyone says the world is big. How big? A real problem when creating worlds is having cookie cutter landscapes. Does the world feel hand crafted or randomly generated?
3) Can you make a hot female to cyber with?
4) How much are they planning on charging? I remember when DAoC was the first game to increase the monthly fee. (That is correct right?) All other MMOs followed suit. Will they be setting the bar higher?
That’s it for now. Good to have you back posting. I’m trying to be a bit more reliable as well.
YARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
KK
I played and quit this in beta before Krones sniffed it, so things could be different now, but it’s like a dominatrix pissing and shitting in your mouth then concluding it by whipping you into submission to say that you love it. You do get a chance at making a purty boat though!
What happened to the guild on the hoof? Not running the TBC gamut? Did you play EQ2?
I just picked it up a week ago.
PVE first and foremost, there is a pvp ruleset server that won’t see much if any love.
Too big, they should have focused on two continents instead of three. Hand crafted, but you need to run the graphics on high if you want to be dazzled. It’s handcrafted, but it needs more touches. It really depends on the area and the designer. I didn’t get to see all the areas. On the plus side, thanks to such a large world there are various starting locations.
Hot enough it feels like your getting a blow job each time you cyber; until you look down and realize that your giving yourself head and your character really looks like an elven retard with a crab claws growing out of its face and your naughty bits somehow end up with crabs, again! Actually, I like how the characters look and players can’t make retards anymore, they capped the sliders.
I believe it’s the standard 15. Don’t remember on the DAOC, but the cost increase is vaguely familiar with other mmogs following suit. Fuckers!
I need to post more often, it’s tough being consistent with the updates. I’m taciturn, always have been, but I love writing, so… haha. Wasn’t the best idea to start a blog now was it?
Yaaaaaaaaaarrrrrr!
