Eternal Quenation
An example of the necessary evil, players bemoan fix the servers, we want our fix. Screw that, I fix my own fix.

A two digit queue, doesn’t seem awful at first glance. Well this is two weeks ago on a freshly dinged Saturday morning, yea that’s right, a queue that really does last for almost half a day, no matter the number a que is still a que and 600-700+ waits are the norm during happy hours. World of Warcraft, a virtual night club of sorts, but wait in line, you may all be the cool kids if you are paying to get in, but you still have to wait your turn to /dance.
Proudmoore sustains an enormous playerbase from down under, lots of players label it the unofficial Aussie server, the atmosphere is very hectic, you can log on after midnight and Ironforge is almost as crowded as it was earlier in the evening. Proudmoore is also a classic beast, being one of the original twenty servers at launch time, so it’s bound to be over crowded.
Not even three months ago there was a server transfer to help alleviate the capacity strain. I didn’t take the plunge and my brother-in-law has paid with tons of lost play time for my decision, not evading the bedlam the first time around was a huge mistake on my part, so when I learned two days ago of another server transfer opening I rejoiced and couldn’t wait to open the escape hatch for the both of us, I planned accordingly, saying goodbye to acquaintances I have formed in the last few months and more saddening leaving my knight errant legacy in the Vampire Penguin Society behind.
The only time my brother-in-law can play World of Warcraft for a healthy (har har) amount of time is on the weekends, particular during the evening, he ventures over with his computer in tow. I borrow any new data he has downloaded for the week and we wait in the queue for our turn at some carnage, we wait, and wait more and we wait even more, but when do get to play, it’s fantastic, the best way to describe it is for anyone who have gotten together with friends and foes and tore at each other’s throats when playing Goldeneye, the camaraderie in person is on a high level and playing the game is a blast, it wasn’t this way in the original EverQuest either, because at the time the game was garbage for casual players seeking accessible goals other than the one bubble gain or degain. Such good times has also piqued my interest in voice chat, if voice chat can replicate or emulate camaraderie on that level frequently between a small group of friends, I’ve certainly been missing out on the shenanigans.
I wont necessarily miss the server community, not the people, which I find amusing, considering I felt completely opposite about the EverQuest server I played on, which no longer exists. However, I will miss several things, about playing on an over crowded server, opportunities.
Lower-Bracket battleground matches
Screw the higher tiers, the levels 50-59, 60 and their epic geared up the ass bracket, these brackets are complete horse shit for casual players or the less epic geared. Unfortunately, matches in the lower bracket tend to be hit or miss, some nights matches were few and far between, other nights, there is so much carnage between pickup groups, it was nothing short of fucking flipping fantastic. PvP servers normally don’t have this problem, players of all levels are more inclined to participate in pvp, so an over crowded pve server does have an advantage for more available lower tier battleground matches.
Arbitrage, ripping off my fellow players
I don’t want to farm shiny gold pieces the ole’ fashioned way and I’m not one of those lucky players that somehow must be using an invisible armor set that gives a % increase for rare loot drops. I cheat the auction house, the basic manta of buying low and selling high, and with the auctioneer add-on cheating fellow players has never been so efficient. A larger playerbase makes the server economy more dynamic and allows far more opportunities to make a profit than what a smaller playerbase allows.
Those two things about the server I will miss, how selfish, I grief in my own way, hah. As for the new server I now reside on, atm I can’t even remember the name, I know it’s vacant and somewhat soulless, in fact, I’m almost looking forward to not playing on this server for the remainder of the month as I wrap up my endurance challenge on the leveling contest server and hit my new play server on weekends for the camaraderie extravaganza. I’m basically in a spiral, the eternal quenation.
