Blizzard: Homo says what?
Several World of Warcraft GM’s enforcing the virtual rule of law at Blizzard HQ have instilled a don’t ask, don’t tell policy for a player using the term “GLBTL friendly” in a public channel when used for recruitment purposes.
Blizzard should allow any guild to recruit with using the term “GLBT friendly” and in a rational manner, seriously, what a fucking hypocritical stance on Blizzard’s part. If some sick pricks were to advertise something along the lines of Nambla associate friendly I’d whole heartedly agree with Blizzard’s censorship, in fact, if that were the case they better contact authorities and equip the pitchforks.
Blizzard claims:
While we appreciate and understand your point of view, we do feel that the advertisement of a ‘GLBT friendly’ guild is very likely to result in harassment for players that may not have existed otherwise. If you will look at our policy, you will notice the suggested penalty for violating the Sexual Orientation Harassment Policy is to ‘be temporarily suspended from the game.’ However, as there was clearly no malicious intent on your part, this penalty was reduced to a warning.
Too me this statement comes across as Blizzard placing the blame on the victim for perpetrator’s behavior. With this policy Blizzard is discriminating against homosexual players.
This is umdoubtedly a sensitive topic for those who take offense easily, those who feel discriminated against and I can’t say I blame anyone in the GLBT community and or a supporter for being upset, this is a perfect example of hypocrisy on Blizzard’s end especially when they allow religious guilds to recruit and toss the the bible thumping praise jesus sentiment around in an open channel. I’ve witnessed this consistently since I’ve started playing again 6 weeks ago.
There are various types of servers that players can experience the game on. One of the options is to play on a role-playing server where players actually play as their characters, rather than through their characters. “We have determined that advertising sexual orientation is not appropriate for the high fantasy setting of the World of Warcraft and is therefore not permitted” was another of Blizzard’s responses. Does this mean that if a player has a character on a role-playing server that they play as gay that would be violating the policy?
High Fantasy Setting? That’s the furthest setting I’ve witnessed on multiple servers, I currently play on three. The communities makes the majority of the setting, the community is the atmosphere and overall this atmosphere not in accordance with Blizzard’s supposed high fantasy standard. And did you see the Lord of the Rings? Who hasn’t! Those hobbits were so fucking queer jumping on that bed at the end. I don’t think I’ve seen such a display ultra homosexuality in a high fantasy setting before, so it can work. Okay, I had to inject some humor… in good fun. and more.
Oh noez! In fact, since I used “GLBT” term anyone who reads this post it will transform them into a gaylord, or even a gayerlord if you are already gay! In fact, if any of you are gay keep away, I might have to uppercut you in the taint to keep you from harming the higher fantasy immersion settings I provide on this very blog.
If the law at Blizzard is so concerned about World of Warcraft’s high fantasy setting and sexual harassment in particular for players are minors, Blizzard might as well nerf the option players have for taking off armor and exposing themselves in a sexual motive and the more provocative female pole dance! Too be honest with you, I think those options are far more flagrant than someone using “GLBT friendly” for guild recruitment purposes.
Do you think Blizzard did the right thing? Where should Blizzard draw the line? And yes, playing captain obvious for a moment Blizzard does have too draw the line somewhere.

Why Blizzard Is Right…
There’s been quite the uproar over Blizzard’s decision to email a guild for advertising that it is “GLBT-friendly” as it recruited members. Since the kneejerk reaction seems to be “ZOMG!!! HOMOPHOBES!!!” I figured I would put forth a viewpoint th…
I just wanted to say blizzard is a bunch of idiots… I said the word “shit” in a sentence ONCE in the lfg channel to someone who had been going on a racist chat spree for over an hour. Oh no im a warcraft society menace!
